FUJIFILM Debuts Next Generation Inkjet Digital Press Technology

One of the most exciting new presses to debut in the printing industry in recent years – Fujifilms Inkjet Digital Press – will be displayed in the FUJIFILM booth (#6919) during PRINT 09, being held at McCormick Place Convention Center on Sept. 11-16, 2009. A remarkable four-up press that combines the best features of both digital and offset printing, Fujifilms Inkjet Digital Press provides high quality, speed and flexibility.
The Fujifilm Inkjet Digital Press is a true piece of digital equipment; it has the look and feel of an offset press but offers the versatility and job handling that only a digital device can provide. It features a standard four-up offset sheet size with a paper delivery and exit like that of a traditional offset press. This product prints on regular coated offset stocks, a key advancement over most inkjet and digital presses, which may require uncoated or specially pre-treated papers. This allows for printing on both standard bond and offset-sized sheets. And, unlike toner-based digital presses, it uses water-based, eco-friendly ink, so there is no toner pileup, resulting in an offset-like finish and quality.
The Fujifilm Inkjet Digital Press prints up to 2,700 28.3″x 20.5″ four-up size sheets per hour, or 10,800 8.5″ x 11″ pages per hour, making it competitive with the short run offset print market. It is a perfect alternative for the commercial printer looking for a product that has offset quality and the robustness of an offset press as well as the versatility to handle the shortest of press runs.
It incorporates an infrared drying system, which means there isnt any drying time necessary after printing and sheets are ready move into the finishing stage of production immediately. By greatly reducing production times on short runs, printers can produce more jobs more efficiently, which equates to money saved, higher margins and more revenue. Plus, its standard-size configuration lends itself towards all types of readily available finishing products.
Print quality is an incredible 1,200 dpi, with four-level gray scale capability. This high level of print quality is achieved by utilizing FUJIFILM Dimatixs SAMBA single pass piezo DOD (drop-on-demand) inkjet head technology. Each of these advanced heads can produce a variable droplet size of 2 picoliters.
Unlike other digital presses, the Fujifilm Inkjet Digital Press uses water-based, eco-friendly ink instead of toner, meaning the unit requires less cleaning and produces less waste. Additionally, it uses fewer consumables and, because of its design, is more easily maintained than both a digital and offset press.
