Tuesday 11. August 2009 - Caraustar Industries, Inc. announced today it has achieved certification (BV-COC-016456) to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody standards for its Austell Boxboard Mill #1 facility in Austell, GA. This certification supports the continuation of sustainable fiber sourcing as the mill produces a totally recycled paperboard product.

Producing 100 percent recycled paperboard since 1949, the Caraustar mill serves many markets, including: book cover boards, school and office products, carpet sample books, furniture components, specialty set-up boxes, and picture frame backs.

“For over 50 years, the Austell mill has produced paperboard products made entirely from recovered waste paper. We pride ourselves on being an environmentally responsible manufacturer, and we are particularly gratified to be recognized with the FSC certification that distinguishes our products in the current market. Our customers can be assured we are doing what is best to meet their requirements while exercising responsibility for the environment,” said Greg Bartlett, vice president sales and marketing, Mill Group.

Caraustar also announced that the Austell Box Board Mill #1 facility has received certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) chain of custody standard. By achieving SFI certification, Caraustar joins a growing community of companies, land-owners, and social and environmental organizations all committed to improving forest practices on a global scale.

FSC and SFI are the leading organizations globally for promoting responsible forest management. Chain of custody is the path taken by raw material harvested from a certified source through processing and manufacturing until it becomes a final product ready for the end consumer.
