TIpografic makes upgrades to a Speedmaster XL 105
Thursday 23. April 2009 - Tipografic has moved one of its presses from UV print and drying to conventional inking and infra red drying. Its latest press investment, a Speedmaster XL 105-6+L, means a better balance between UV and conventional production.
“We are reacting to a change in the market place, making an investment that reflects the increasing cost and environmental consciousness among buyers,” says managing director Jeff Cornell.
The XL 105 has replaced a CD 102 press to give the company 30-40% higher productivity from the start.
“I first saw the XL 105 when it was unveiled at Drupa 2004. It looked impressive but we like to buy when a press is proven and in the market for at least two or three years. This is now proven and the reports we have had from users have been very good. Its an impressive machine,” says Mr Cornell.
The company is producing wet labels and is finding that work for the canning industry is thriving despite the recession.
“Households are looking for cheaper ways of getting food on the table so soups, beans and pastas are popular. It really is a good year for canning,” he says.
Last year in readiness for this next generation press Tipografic beefed up its CtP facilities and added new Polar cutting kit. That means that the company is geared up for the higher output of the new press.
Tipografic prints wet labels on both paper and plastic and offers a range of finishes including embossing, gold foiling, square cutting and ram punching. In addition to wet labels the company produces reel fed labels, self-adhesive labels, cartons, paint cards and security print.
It has installed the XL 105 at its Liverpool facility where it will run 24 hours a day five or six days a week, depending on demand. The press is Heidelbergs peak performing B1 press producing work of 75 x 105cm at 18,000sph. It is a productive but environmentally friendly press, with excellent energy per copy rating.
