County Council makes switch to full colour production
Wednesday 08. April 2009 - North Yorkshire County Council is making its first move into full colour single pass production with a Speedmaster SM 52-5-P with AxisControl spectrophotometry.
The press replaces a two-colour SM 52 and is being delivered this month. Staff are excited at the prospect of training on the new press which will enable the inplant to handle more work in-house.
“To date we have been limited to spot colour and a limited amount of full colour,” says John Metcalfe, head of reprographics and printing services. “Now we can handle more work and have greater control with the same manning.”
Most of the print departments work comes from the county council, particularly the adult community services and schools, with a strong requirement for brochures and binders. It also handles work for seven district councils, several parish councils and some charities.
When Mr Metcalfe started with the print department 20 years ago it had a basic Ryobi A4 duplicator and it worked out of a basement office. Now it has two litho presses and both black and white and colour digital printing capacity and has a dedicated print room in the old Record Office in Northallerton.
