WOA and Flint Group Announce the Recipient of the 2009 H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award

Friday 03. April 2009 - Web Offset Association and Flint Group are pleased to announce the recipient of the H. Howard Flint II Pressroom Manager of the Year Award.

The recipient is Steve Buechel of The Segerdahl Group. Buechel has been a dedicated employee of The Segerdahl Group for 30 years where he began his career as a packer and has worked his way up to his current role of pressroom manager. He is one of the best and most creative pressroom managers and press operators in the industry.

The direct mail printing industry is challenging and rarely is the same job or format run twice. This puts incredible pressure on staff. Not only must Buechel, as pressroom manager, be incredibly dedicated to the cause, but he must be accessible 24/7 to respond to pressroom concerns. Further, at The Segerdahl Group, he must be able and willing to think outside the box in the creative sense, be able to implement some of these highly complex formats in the pressroom environment, and have the competency to work with the most important asset-the customer. This means superb management, delegation skills, the uncanny ability to think and explain in three dimensions, and the ability to convince subordinates that the impossible is truly possible.

Buechel’s nominators emphatically agree that he does it all while maintaining his steady diet of sophisticated variable imaging, diecutting, inserting, UV coating, labeling, and much more.

This award is dedicated to the memory of H. Howard Flint II, chairman of Flint Ink, who died in 2005. Mr. Flint was an industry luminary who was well known for his dedication to training and education. Active in many areas of the association, he was a strong supporter of WOA, Printing Industries of America, and the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation.

WOA and Flint Group will present Buechel with a commemorative plaque and a conference package. Buechel will have the opportunity to recognize a graphic arts school of his choice with a $2,000 scholarship check. The presentation is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2009, at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, during the Offset & Beyond conference
