Mexx Black: Gerresheimer presents new rectangular flacons with amazing design effects

April 2009 - Consistently rectangular shapes and black which could not be blacker - but added to this also the light transparency of glass with a whisper of the tinted fragrance: from such contrasts the flacons for Mexx Black Man and Mexx Black Woman (P&G Prestige Beauté) develop a strong allure. Gerresheimer displays them to high effect for the first time at Cosmopack in Bologna (April 2 to 5, 2009, Hall 19, C41-D42).

A rectangle is in fact completely objective and functional, says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of Marketing and Communication for the Gerresheimer Group: “This design loads it with temperament and gives the simple shape enormous dynamism.” The work of art succeeds with the help of a vertical transition as the deep black merges into colorlessness. From the T-shaped closure to well beyond the angular shoulder the flacons are enveloped in black high gloss – half way down the opaque darkness gradually breaks up, evaporates in a shroud of mist and then vanishes almost completely. The amazing result: on the clear glass lower down the heavy black seems to float, to rise, to become increasingly concentrated towards the top.

A sight in itself, the so-called degradée spraying on the immaculately smooth body provides the framework for further very beautiful effects. Its transparency in the lower area allows the delicately tinted fragrance to be seen – here the feminine variant shimmers in a fine salmon hue and the masculine in cooler blue grey. In each case the same color tone is reflected in the printed logo, although concentrated here in a striking cover color: to the top left of the black surface, ‘Mexx Black’ in prominent letters develops a conspicuous luminosity.

Gerresheimer Tettau produces the attractive newcomers in six different formats – three narrower designs for Her and three broader but no less slimly built versions for Him. For each individual variant the proportions were individually matched: only in this way do they all achieve a perfectly balanced effect, and only in this way does the design concept function really masterfully in the different sizes from 15 to 75 milliliters.
