Flexo specialist buys Polar guillotine
Wednesday 01. April 2009 - Scottish flexo business Bissett Printers will take delivery of a Polar 92X guillotine from Heidelberg next month. It replaces an older rival machine.
The East Kilbride company supplies labels, cartons, sleeves and trays to a UK-wide market, primarily food companies, so it required a cutting machine that could handle even the heaviest cartonboard materials.
It runs flexo presses and much of its cutting is rotary but the Polar 92X will handle all flat sheet cutting.
Finance director Peter McKinnon says: “We still have an old Heidelberg platen for cutting and creasing and the name Heidelberg is well known and synonymous with good long term asset value.
“We needed a heavy duty machine to cope with thick carton board and we have specified air tables because for operators to lift 200 sheets of cartonboard repeatedly is an onerous task. Air tables will give us both Health & Safety and productivity benefits.”
The company operates with 24 staff and has enjoyed year on year growth of about 15%, adding value to the company with new services such as packaging design and fulfilment. It is very quality minded and holds the ISO 9001 Quality Accreditation. It also prides itself on giving a bespoke, personal service to clients of all sizes.
