New York Print Shop Avoids Workflow “Jam,” Integrates with Heidelberg Prinect

Tuesday 09. December 2008 - Mitch Schilkraut, production manager for Jam Printing in Elmsford, N.Y., is a firm believer that investing in the most up-to-date, advanced technology is the best way to survive business challenges.

This philosophy is what led the company to upgrade its entire Prinect workflow system and replace an older platesetter with a new Suprasetter A74, which is used with Heidelberg Saphira Chemfree thermal plates. “In today’s unsteady market, printers of all sizes have to deliver accurate, high-quality work at the best price possible for their customers, and trusting in the best technology has definitely paid off for our company,” Schilkraut said. “It can be especially hard for small shops with a sharper learning curve to become ‘early adopters’ of the latest technologies, but staying ahead of the game is worth it.” In addition to its new Suprasetter and upgraded Prinect workflow system, Jam Printing also installed Heidelberg’s Prinect Signa Station for impositioning and sheet assembly and Prinect MetaDimension for speeding the RIP process. Jam Printing, which is owned by Schilkraut’s wife Judith Millman, is an all-Heidelberg shop. The company runs a new 2-color Printmaster QM 46 press and a 5-color Printmaster PM 52 press in the pressroom, as well as a POLAR 78 cutter and a Stahlfolder B 20 folder in the bindery. Heidelberg Saphira Consumables are in use throughout the shop, which produces marketing and general commercial materials for East Coast customers in the medical education and advertising industries.
