Boneck Printing Takes Control of the Bindery with Addition of Heidelberg Stahlfolder

Monday 08. December 2008 - After a complete renovation of its prepress department with Heidelberg technology enhancements more than a year ago, Boneck Printing has turned its attention to the bindery.

In order to bring all of its postpress operations in-house, the company installed a new Stahlfolder B 26 folder from Heidelberg. “The technology available on our new Stahlfolder has allowed us to handle gate folding and other complex folding orders in-house, rather than outsourcing that work,” said President Tom Behrens. “It can handle complex folding jobs at high speeds, and our operators are very happy with the results.” Since installing Heidelberg’s full Prinect workflow system, Boneck Printing uses a host of Heidelberg Saphira Consumables, including wash-up blankets, chemistry and Saphira Chemfree thermal plates. “Ninety percent of our pressroom equipment is Heidelberg, and we are moving toward an all-Heidelberg operation from prepress through the bindery,” Behrens said. “My goal is to have a completely integrated shop, and Heidelberg’s workflow technology and equipment will help us get there.” The Sheboygan, Wis. shop began as a “garage shop” in 1962, and now its 14 employees work primarily with health care companies on a national scale, creating high-end sales and business materials that are distributed across the U.S.
