JOHN MCCORMICK & CO LTD INSTALLS FIRST KOMORI TO IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFITS

Thursday 25. September 2008 - John McCormick & Co Ltd, the commercial printers and stationers in Glasgow, has installed its first Komori, a B2 five-colour Spica 29. It is the company's first step into full colour sheetfed printing, having previously fulfilled its colour work on narrow web presses and two-colour Heidelbergs, or by outsourcing the work to trade printers.

The Komori Spica’s small footprint was one of the considerations in the decision-making process. There are space limitations at John McCormick and the compact design made it an ideal choice as it takes up less room than other presses of a similar specification.

Service was another important factor. “In this day and age, it is a given that any modern press will perform to a certain standard,” says co-owner and director David McCormick. “The benefits come in all the other areas, such as after sales service and support. We had heard good things around the industry about Komori’s after sales service, and as it was our first move into full colour sheetfed, that’s what really made the decision for us. The sales agent, Stewart Daniels of IES Scotland, was very pro-active and gave us confidence in dealing with Komori.”

The Spica is a high-powered, multifunctional press that has gained unconditional acclaim from new users. The compact body houses Komori’s renowned short make-ready system. Its capacity to flexibly tackle a very wide work mix means more business opportunities.

To handle digitisation, the Spica is also equipped with the PQC-U Print Quality Control system, which offers full CIP4 data compatibility. As well as having the Komorimatic dampening system, it also enables environmentally-friendly non-alcohol printing.

Almost all tasks, including automatic wash up, can be performed from the touch-screen on the integrated operating console, reducing the operator workload and raising productivity from a small footprint press with excellent short run performance.

“We see ourselves as a single source supplier,” says David, “and being able to print all our full colour work in-house brings another element under our control. The Spica is a fast machine, we get a pass sheet more quickly and it will increase our productivity, our volumes and our profits.”
