Fujifilm showcases short run print solutions at Total Print! Expo 2008

Monday 15. September 2008 - First UK showcase of new technologies launched at drupa 2008

Fujifilm today announces that it will be using Total Print! Expo 2008 to showcase its range of short run print solutions, many of which will make their UK debut following their launch at drupa earlier this year.

Following a number of highly significant acquisitions and a strategic partnership with Xerox Corporation, Fujifilm has built an impressive portfolio of solutions targeted at short run printing. The company is now able to offer one of the widest ranges of wide format inkjet and toner-based digital presses, complemented by a portfolio of software solutions that utilises Fujifilm’s unique heritage and expertise in colour and quality management.

At the heart of Fujifilm’s stand at the show will be version 2.0 of Fujifilm’s cross-media workflow solution XMF. Built from the ground-up around JDF and the Adobe PDF Print Engine, XMF is inherently more efficient at processing PDF files and maximising job turnaround, both critical in short run printing. And, with its Fujifilm imposition and colour management engines, XMF v2.0 enables printers to switch from a digital to a litho press (or vice versa) with just a click of a mouse, confident that the job will then be automatically imposed and colour managed to suit the new press.

New features of XMF v2.0 that have been specifically designed to improve digital printing include a new version of Fujifilm’s XMF C-Fit image enhancement software. This has the ability to automatically optimise a PDF for digital printing, providing intelligent colour value information about each image and graphic within the document. Another new feature is XMF Remote, a remote approval module that speeds up production time by offering superior online collaboration and approval functionality.

Also incorporated into XMF v2.0 is a new Fujifilm colour engine that ensures the most efficient use of toner when used with a Xerox DocuColor press. This produces output quality much closer to offset printing and dramatically reduces the ‘shine’ sometimes seen on toner-based digital output. This will be demonstrated on the Fujifilm stand with XMF driving a DocuColor 8000 digital press.

Fujifilm will also be highlighting updates to its wide-format inkjet capabilities with ExcellightTM, a new film for backlit or reflective POS/display use, on show on the stand. Able to achieve near-photographic quality with both UV and solvent-based inkjets at a fraction of the media cost, ExcellightTM is manufactured at Fujifilm’s Tilburg plant in the Netherlands and will be commercially available in Q4 2008.

With its PhotoBook and PhotoGenie software, Fujifilm will be demonstrating its solutions for photobook and gift printing. Developed by ip.labs, a company acquired by Fujifilm in early 2008, these brand new solutions represent the best in web and PC-based software for consumer-level digital photo selection, album layout, previewing and ordering.

Finally, for those printers looking at improving the efficiency of their litho print process in order to maximise short run print opportunities, Fujifilm will be highlighting how the use of its Brillia HD PRO-T plate can reduce turnaround times and improve efficiency. The successful Brillia HD PRO-T processless plate doesn’t require any form of processing, going straight from the platesetter on to the press. This results in huge time savings in the pre-press process, with improved productivity, efficiency and flexibility for litho printers.

Graham Leeson, marketing manager at Fujifilm Graphic Systems, says: “Printers who are looking for the best short-run print solutions on the market should not miss the Fujifilm stand at Total Print Expo. We will be demonstrating how the latest version of our XMF workflow combined with the widest range of high quality toner and inkjet presses, our award-winning plates, and our other market-leading technologies, offer the very best in short run print.”
