Promotion at Newsprinters

Allan Wain, group manufacturing director, Newsprinters

Monday 11. August 2008 - Newsprinters, the newspaper manufacturing subsidiary of News International, today announces that it has promoted Allan Wain to group manufacturing director. Previously Allan was manufacturing director (North) responsible for Newsprinters’ Knowsley and Eurocentral sites and in his new role, he will also take on the company’s Broxbourne site.

Allan is responsible for ensuring that best practice and continuous improvement initiatives are introduced at each of the Newsprinters’ sites, instilling and maintaining the Newsprinters culture and successfully introducing contract printing into Broxbourne, Knowsley and Eurocentral.

Allan started at News International in April 1998 at the Knowsley site and became general manager of Knowsley in October 1998. He was promoted to manufacturing director (North) in 2006, which led to him managing the transition between Kinning Park and Eurocentral.

Brian McGee, managing director of Newsprinters, says: “Allan has done a terrific job so far in setting up the sites at Knowsley and Eurocentral and we are confident that he will also do an outstanding job at Broxbourne.”

Allan adds: “With the state-of-the art design and manufacturing facilities at Newsprinters’ Broxbourne plant being so new, it gives me a blank canvas with great scope to mould the site and team, using my previous experience as a foundation. We aim to make Newsprinters the best newspaper manufacturer in the world and the management teams on each site are really focussed on that goal.”

The manufacturing directors at Newsprinters Broxbourne, Knowsley and Eurocentral report to Allan who reports directly to Brian McGee.
