Top Brit and 6th overall for Alex Bennett and Fujifilm in the Artemis Transat

Sunday 01. June 2008 - Alex Bennett in the Fujifilm yacht arrived safely back on land yesterday, coming 6th in the Artemis Transat and the first Brit over the finish line in Boston.

On arriving at the Marblehead Yacht Club, an exhausted but remarkably chirpy Alex Bennett, said: “Well we made it and we’re in America! The North Atlantic certainly lived up to its reputation – it has been a really tough few weeks. The performance differences between all the boats has been so slight that it has made the racing fiercely competitive. Sailing into the wind and waves towards the Ice Gate waypoint was the toughest part of the race. Both myself and the Fujifilm yacht got a real battering during those 4 days. I didn’t realise a boat could take that much of a pasting without breaking up, but we came through it with minimal problems really. I’m certainly pleased to be here and personally feel a great sense of achievement now that we have arrived. It’s been a great race and one that I will remember for years to come.”
