ExxonMobil Chemical Company Introduces New Product for Packaging and Agricultural Greenhouse Films with the Potential to Reduce Waste and Energy Consumption
Monday 28. April 2008 - ExxonMobil Chemical Company today at Chinaplas 2008 showcased a new product, Enable mPE, with the potential to significantly reduce waste and energy consumption across a broad spectrum of film applications.
Enable mPEsinnovative design reduces the amount of raw materials needed because films can be made thinner, but with equal strength. Enable mPE also generates less process waste than resins used in existing film applications, and it is recyclable.
Enable mPE is ExxonMobil Chemicals newest product to improve energy efficiency and exemplifies the companys commitment to providing solutions for customers. Enable mPE is ideal for packaging that makes it easier to ship and store bottled water, beverages, canned goods, hand soaps, detergents, health products and beauty aids. In addition, Enable mPEs transparency and toughness make it particularly well-suited for agricultural greenhouse films.
“Enable mPE reduces the amount of film needed by about 20 percent, improves film performance and, at the same time, reduces energy consumption because it can be processed at lower temperatures,” said Jim Harris, senior vice president, ExxonMobil Chemical Company. “In fact, this new product can have greenhouse gas reductions equivalent to taking 700,000 cars off the road while saving enough energy to power 900,000 homes.”
In the area of product technology, ExxonMobil focuses its efforts on developing new products whose characteristics are environmentally preferred. These products span many chemical families and end uses. Examples include products that enable downgauged plastics, longer-life and improved air retention tires and lithium ion batteries for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.
“Our technological advances continue to bring higher valued products to market to improve quality of life for people all over the world,” said Harris.
