Océ reaffirms commitment to growing Asian print market
Thursday 17. April 2008 - Océ, an international leader in digital document management, today reinforced its commitment to the rapidly-growing Asian market, responsible for some 5% of overall revenues of EUR 3.1 billion in 2007.
The company presented one of its keynote printing systems the Océ ColorStream 10000 at the Asia Distributors Conference in Taiwan. A prominent research institute predicts that Asias print market will grow 50% by 2010. The market for digital printing hardware is estimated to expand by about 15%, making Asia the region with the second-fastest growth. Océ is committed to help shape the future of the promising Graphic Arts market by providing new, high performance digital presses such as the Océ ColorStream 10000 and substantial added value over traditional printing techniques.
Toner-based color digital press
“The Océ ColorStream 10000 is one of the fastest ever toner-based color digital presses to be engineered specifically for the Graphic Arts industry,” said Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President Océ Production Printing.
Speaking at the conference, the Océ executive commented on some of the benefits of this pioneering technology: “The Océ ColorStream 10000 can easily handle jobs that were not previously affordable or possible on one system, such as printing the first few pages of a document in color and the next 50 pages in black & white. The benefits over offset rapid order turnaround, just-in-time production and variability in content design add value to customers that is nowhere more important than in the Graphic Arts industry.”
Promising digital printing arena
The Graphic Arts industry is growing in prominence in Asia, benefiting from mass outsourcing of print volume from the US and Europe. The region lags behind in terms of digital printing: books, manuals and other mass-produced items are still printed using conventional technologies. Companies with ultra-high print volumes are now moving into the digital printing arena. Océ is in the vanguard of this movement.
Océ ColorStream and Océ JetStream
Océ also introduced the groundbreaking high speed Océ JetStream color inkjet printing system to the Asian market. Distinguished by Océ DigiDot technology, the new series redefines productivity and quality standards for ultra high volume, full-color production printing. A hefty duty cycle handles well over 60 million impressions per month, allowing an average monthly capacity of up to 5.5 million meters. Offering unprecedented versatility, ease of use and integration into existing workflows, the new Océ JetStream is distinguished by total flexibility as well as raw speed.
Prominent regional player
In February 2008, Océ demonstrated its intention to become a prominent player in the region by opening Océ Technologies Asia. The hub, located in Singapore, coordinates research and development activities as well as product introductions, supply chain management and procurement.
For the last five years, Océ has cooperated with Asian contract manufacturers in the production of mainly wide format and some cutsheet modules previously manufactured in The Netherlands. This generated average production savings amounting to as much as 30%, fully in line with Océs stated objective of relocating approximately 80% of its Dutch production value of these print systrems to countries in Asia and Central Europe by the end of 2008.
