Rick Parrish becomes publisher of The Journal Times in Racine
Wednesday 02. January 2008 - Rick Parrish has been promoted from advertising director to publisher of The Journal Times in Racine.
He succeeds Richard Johnston, who has been appointed publisher of another Lee Enterprises, Incorporated (NYSE: LEE), newspaper, The Pantagraph, in Bloomington, Ill. Parrish had served as interim publisher during the search for a successor.
“As his colleagues at The Journal Times already know, Rick brings strong skills and a long string of achievements in newspaper and online advertising sales, circulation sales and distribution, marketing, accounting, administration and management,” said Carl Schmidt, Lee vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. “We’re delighted to have found an ideal successor to Dick Johnston right here at home.”
Parrish has been advertising director at The Journal Times since 2005. In addition to leading the sales staff, he has helped spearhead the development of innovations at www.journaltimes.com, including the introduction of online neighborhood news, commentary and photo forums.
“I am very excited about this opportunity and continuing to work with the great staff at The Journal Times,” Parrish said. “I look forward to meeting new friends and expanding my role in the community.”
Before joining Lee, he was retail advertising manager at the Idaho Statesman in Boise, and previously advanced in sales, administration and management positions at The Seattle Times. In Seattle, he served as advertising sales executive, online sales executive, advertising sales manager and general manager of the newspaper’s distribution subsidiary.
He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Central Washington University. He and his wife, Jan, spend time volunteering with Racine Youth Sports as basketball and baseball coaches and at The John Paul II Academy School. They have a son, Troy, who is in the second grade.
