GARANT introduces new machine generation EXTRA 5-FS – Worldwide demand increases enormously
The cross-bottom bag becomes a competitive advantage: With the new EXTRA 5-FS, GARANT takes up the international packaging trend and introduces a cross-bottom bag machine that meets modern and ecological production requirements. The EXTRA 5-FS is technically based on the TRIUMPH 5-F6, the reference for block bottom bags since 2021. There is already great demand from the hygiene sector, especially for nappy packaging.
“We are experiencing the rediscovery of the paper cross-bottom bag in the industry, coupled with a surge of innovation in the application possibilities,” says Managing Director Torsten Berding. “Yet the paper version had long been considered a niche version, overtaken for decades by plastic as a raw material. Accordingly, there was hardly any development in the technology. Today, only old machines were used for the paper form. And these are usually difficult to drive in terms of efficiency and reliability.” But the market and demand are changing, says Berding: More and more consumers believe in paper as a more sustainable packaging, corporations are setting their own sustainability targets, almost every packaging logic is under scrutiny. “That’s where the cross-bottom bag with its filling properties shows an old strength. This is also due to the fact that the changeover from plastic to paper in the downstream filling lines is usually uncomplicated,” Berding continues. On the shelves for hygiene products and especially nappies, “the global players are already showing what is possible”. For Berding, this is just the beginning: “Paper as packaging is experiencing several innovation thrusts, in sustainability, in cost-effectiveness and also in applicability: new varnishes, new coatings even make moisture-protected paper packaging conceivable.”
The new EXTRA 5-FS converts paper into cross-bottom bags in the format variants widely used in the consumer sector:
– Tube width: 220 – 460 mm
– Bottom width: 80 – 190 mm
– Cut-off length: 370 – 770 mm
“It was particularly important to us to bring efficiency to a modern level in day-to-day production. Compared to previous machine generations, we have been able to incorporate several decades of progress “, emphasises design manager Jörg Thies. Accordingly, the EXTRA 5-FS works with servo support and thus shortens set-up times even with frequent format changes. Production can be fine-tuned during operation; interruptions and start-up times are a thing of the past. Operator guidance is largely automated, facilitating training and operation even with changing operators. Thanks to the optional filling edge sealing, the full-surface PE coating can also be dispensed with, depending on the application. This enables resource-saving production with lower grammages and in compliance with the 95/5 EU standard.
The EXTRA 5-FS is also prepared for various additional finishing units, such as double punches, inline printing units, fully automatic reel splicers, hole punches and other options.
The EXTRA 5-FS can be ordered now.
