LEONHARD KURZ covers all trends of the renown packaging trade fair with strong partners

Thursday 13. April 2023 - After a lengthy break due to the pandemic, the largest international trade fair for the packaging industry will once again be held in Düsseldorf this year - and the industrys anticipation of a reunion in the metropolis on the Rhine is great.

Thousands of exhibitors from a wide range of countries will present their innovations from 4 to 10 May 2023.
At stands C36 and D43, LEONHARD KURZ, together with several subsidiaries and partner companies, will present new finishing solutions, efficient machines and technologies for reliable counterfeit protection.
Late-stage customisation from MPRINT
With its modular UV-LED digital printing solutions, KURZ subsidiary MPRINT will be demonstrating the diverse possibilities of late-stage individualisation in sheetfed printing live on site. The innovative machines are suitable, among other things, for the digital printing of blister packaging, cards and folding boxes and ensure more sustainability with simultaneous efficiency and flexibility. The centrepiece is a vacuum conveyor belt on which various printing units can be installed – for example, monochrome modules such as the monojet Printbar for imprinting barcodes or variable texts, multi-colour systems for imprinting security information in special colours or plug-in modules for integrating security features that enable reliable, digital brand protection. Monojet is the solution for both static data (texts, images, etc.) and highly dynamic data such as barcodes generated from databases.
A new design study will also be presented, based on the intuitive HMI with extended print software functions as a new operating concept for the fastest way to start printing. The whole thing is complemented by an “all-in-one digital printbar” concept in which no additional peripherals are required and everything from the PC to the ink supply is integrated in the print case. This saves space and simplifies operation. In combination with a development study of a new highly compact 4C digital printing module, MPRINT presents an absolute highlight. This opens up completely new possibilities in the future, especially for integration in packaging machines, among other things.
MPRINT will also be showing the MJETeco, a compact stand-alone solution in the label sector (roll-to-roll), which is ideally suited for customising conventionally produced and highly finished labels at the last possible moment. A special feature of the MJETeco is, for example, the processing of already weeded labels. This makes the system also suitable for the industrial in-plant market and enables manufacturers and contract packaging companies to individually adapt label production to the actual production volume and to make it more efficient and sustainable.
Proof of sustainability and digital added value directly on the product
KURZ and KURZ Digital will jointly demonstrate the Digital Product Passport (DPP). This offers the possibility to store comprehensive information about the product – for example about production, the resources used, the supply chain and sustainability. At the same time, the DPP can also increase customer loyalty through digital added values, for example by integrating further marketing content such as competitions. Interested parties can convince themselves of the diverse features and possible applications of the Digital Product Passport on site.
Sustainable counterfeit protection made of compostable material
Now also “in green”: the counterfeit-proof, serialised ValiGate security label from KURZ subsidiary SCRIBOS offers effective protection against counterfeiting. Products can be easily and reliably authenticated with a smartphone and overproduction and grey market goods can be detected. No app is required for the authentication process. Rather, ValiGate uses the entire QR code to embed the patented security pattern that cannot be copied or imitated. A new version of the security label, ValiGate Green, will be on show at interpack 2023, which is made from 100% compostable materials and still offers all the usual levels of security. This means that brand owners not only enjoy maximum protection, but also come one step closer to their sustainability goals at the same time.
Lots of inspiration and more partners
In addition to KURZ Digital, MPRINT and SCRIBOS, two other subsidiaries of the Fürth-based thin-film specialist will be represented with their products and solutions at the KURZ stand. Hinderer + Mühlich (H+M) is a leading global manufacturer of hot stamping dies, which will be presenting its portfolio of precision tools for the unique finishing of packaging and labels at the fair. ISIMAT, on the other hand, is a machine builder with proven expertise in the finishing of tubes, glasses, aluminium and plastic articles, and will be presenting its wide range of decoration solutions on the so-called “inspiration wall” at the KURZ stand. Unique samples and prototypes make finishing possibilities tangible. Using the examples on display, visitors can see the various options for themselves on site and discover new decoration solutions from KURZ.
