HP Indigo Supports Digital Etikett go from Grassroots to Leading Label Producer
Monday 13. February 2023 - Starting in a small warehouse with only a few employees, Kjetil invested in two HP Indigo digital presses. He has since overseen a growing digital label business, in partnership with HP Indigo, proving that this risk paid off, with endless possibilities ahead.
Norway-based print service provider, Digital Etikett, had a very humble beginning, when founder and owner, Kjetil Hovland, sold everything he owned, including his home in Oslo, and moved back to his birthplace of Gaupne, putting all his money into one idea – to build a unique digital label business.
Starting in a small warehouse with only a few employees, Kjetil invested in two HP Indigo digital presses. He has since overseen a growing digital label business, in partnership with HP Indigo, proving that this risk paid off, with endless possibilities ahead.
Speaking on his decision to invest in HP Indigo technology Kjetil explains that “one of the reasons I chose HP is because of the people I met there. Second, they are the biggest player in digital printing with a digital offset, that is the highest quality you can get in printing. For me there was no question on quality as you need the best.”
Kjetil touches on his partnership with HP saying that “When we got involved with HP, I met a lot of good people and they did not just sell me a machine, they really sold me a connection to other people, and other happy customers who could tell me about their story and what the machines did for their business.”
Over a decade later, with a new factory and dozens of employees, Digital Etikett today prints offset quality labels for large brands, local craft brands and small farmers’ market products. The company specialises in customised short-runs of labels, with the ability to deliver high quality products to customers of any size. No customer is too big or too small, as they can deliver solutions and work fast to get jobs completed, whether this be for 100,000 or 1 million, they can achieve these in the same day.
Kjetil believes its success is thanks to the flexibility achieved by its Indigo presses and the digital print technology. It doesn’t have to make plates or make anything ready, and its factory is solely digital, with a fleet of HP Indigo presses including an HP Indigo 6800 digital press and an HP Indigo 20000 digital press. The 6800 press offers agility whilst the 20000 press provides volume. Together, the fleet provides an unbeatable team of solutions and possibilities for customers.
Digital Etikett is also a firm believer in sustainability, and prides itself on partnering with its customers to deliver more than just print jobs. As a result, Kjetil and his team receive strong support from the local community. When speaking about the company’s sustainability, Kjetil said, “There is sustainability in being a local producer in small batches and minimal media waste as it is good for the customer and also for the environment. I like the expression ‘from earth to table’ as we make things locally and from the earth which is good for everyone and the planet and is part of the Norwegian way of thinking. It is not only about labels but also about society, how we can try to do things better.”
All HP Indigo digital presses are designed with the environment in mind and offer the most sustainable and efficient way to produce labels and packaging applications with minimal environmental impact and less waste. They also allow for rapid, just in time production, whilst their inks enable converters to comply with the stringent regulations that meet industry food packaging standards and environmental credentials.
Speaking on this successful partnership, Markus Weiss, EMEA General Manager, HP Industrial Printing, said, “This is an exciting partnership in the Nordics, and were proud that Digital Etiketts portfolio of HP Indigo digital presses has helped their business to continue to serve their growing customer base with more sustainable packaging solutions.”
Digital Etikett is a brilliant example of how HP Indigo is able to support customers of all sizes on their digital print journeys, whilst keeping sustainability front and centre.
