Topac is packaging printer of the year 2020
Friday 20. November 2020 - Topac GmbH, a member of the Bertelsmann Printing Group and a specialist in print products and cardboard packaging, has won a coveted industry award. At the Druck&Medien Awards 2020, the company was able to assert itself in the category Packaging Printer of the Year and took first place.
Since the traditional competition had to be held without the popular awards gala this year due to the Corona pandemic, Topac managing director Sven Deutschmann has now received the good news by e-mail. The trophy and certificate will arrive by mail in the next few days, the actual award ceremony will then take place in a virtual award ceremony via video chat.
“We are very happy about this special award. This is exactly the kind of news that one longs for when one takes a closer look at the external influences and challenges this year,” says Topac Managing Director Deutschmann. “For our entire team, the award is not only a great motivational boost, but at the same time an impressive confirmation of the entrepreneurial courage to enter into the production of sustainable packaging solutions for the food industry in 2019, which is completely new for us.
Topac has only been involved in the market for sustainable food packaging for almost two years. While the core business used to consist almost exclusively of packaging for records and other audio carriers, the company has been focusing on diversification for some years now. The Gütersloh-based company first brought sustainable packaging for cosmetics and SIM cards onto the market, and in early 2019 the decision was made to transfer this innovative competence to the food industry. In March last year the company obtained the DIN FSSC 22000 certification required for the production of primary food packaging and shortly afterwards entered into a cooperation agreement with the Italian special machinery manufacturer Mondini. The production of packaging products which make it possible to reduce the use of plastics by up to 70% was then started in early summer.
In the meantime, Topac has already acquired various well-known customers in this new business field, is continuously building up further industry-specific know-how and is working on completely new types of packaging concepts in its own product & design development department. Sven Deutschmann again: “The demand for our sustainable packaging solutions is huge and the production capacity utilisation in this new business segment is so good that it even exceeds our own expectations for the calendar year. The fact that the jury of the Druck&Medien Award now considers this success story to be worthy of an award gives us additional motivation”.
