Performance Package order marks a first for QIPC in Spain
Tuesday 29. November 2016 - The Spanish-based print concern Calprint SL has placed an order for a Performance Package from Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC). QIPC, the specialist in automation for the printing industry, is to install the IDS-3D system for colour and register control at Calprint SL's plant in Medina del Campo, close to Valladolid in the centre of Spain. It will be the first closed-loop colour control system to be installed on a coldset press in the country. The Performance Package will also entail the updating of existing Engineering Automation Electronics (EAE) systems.
Necessary investment
Calprint SL is a private printing concern whose market covers a sizeable catchment area in Spain. The company has seen its customer base increase considerably over the last few years, mainly due to the investments and improvements made in the plant: new printing machines, state-of-the-art technologies, recruitment of the best professionals and seniors, and specially thanks to the commitment of the owner, Eugenio Gascón, who bet on the printing business eagerly, managing the crisis in printing and satisfying their customers with the work done. Calprint now prints national dailies El Mundo, El Norte de Castilla, Gaceta de Salamanca, Diario de Leon among others. In the light of recent objectives, the company deemed it necessary to invest in the automation of its KBA Comet printing press. “The hope is we can make significant savings in terms of waste and time,” explains José Luis Peregrina, production manager at Calprint SL. “Improving the quality of our end-product and increasing levels of colour consistency in our print versions results in greater customer satisfaction.”
Reference
In all, a total of 12 IDS-3D cameras will be installed in Medina del Campo, together with an IQM data-processor. “Because this is the first QIPC closed-loop colour control system in Spain, Calprint SL is likely to serve as a reference for our products in the rest of the country,” explains Jaco Bleijenberg, Director of International Sales & Marketing at QIPC. “Other interested parties will be able to visit to see our system in action.”
Statement of intent
In addition to this order, Calprint SL and QIPC have also signed a statement of intent which means that practically the same QIPC systems as well as an EAE update will be installed on another KBA Comet printing press at the plant. “So far, the partnership with QIPC has been perfect, but the proof of the pudding will be when we see the new system working,” says José Luis Peregrina. Jaco Bleijenberg: “Once the system has succeeded in meeting the requirements and the expectations set, we will we be able to install the other press to the same standards
