Marstan secures Heidelberg Colour Club status following press purchase

Monday 09. June 2014 - Marstan Press has attained its Heidelberg ISO 12647-2 colour certification and becomes part of the respected Colour Club. This follows on from the company's £1.4m investment programme which included the purchase of a Speedmaster XL 75-10-P.

“The new press, equipped with Inpress Control and Pressroom Manager, has given us very robust colour control capability and enabled us to handle the highest quality work and to create new opportunities,” says Martin Lett Junior, sales and marketing director. “Our previous press had ImageControl so we had been working to the ISO standard and had the right processes in place. The brand new press meant we could proceed to certification with no worries over wear and tear.”
The capacity of the XL 75 has impressed Marstan Press, its ability to queue jobs and preset work. Although it replaced two presses, a Speedmaster SM 74-10-P and a Speedmaster SM 74-5-P, the company is already matching the productivity and it believes it will attain 20-30% greater output once it has maximised the machine’s capabilities with operators trusting that they can reduce the overs level and ensuring the logistics are even slicker still.
The company is achieving three to four minute makereadies on straight work and seven to eight minute makereadies on perfected jobs.
“The press is fantastic but minders have to make a mental leap to trust its capabilities and to ensure the paper is always in the right place at the right time so there is no interruption to work,” he says. “Inpress Control makes it possible for a two for one press exchange. We did look at other press options but they would not have given us the same leap in productivity. With Heidelberg you feel assured of the quality of technology and the technical ability of their support. With one press you need to have great back up,” says Mr Lett Junior. His father, Martin Senior, is the managing director.
Marstan Press handles work from across the UK, operating a 24/6 service from its Bexleyheath plant to meet the needs of its customers. The company has switched from Prism to Tharstern MIS. The company already holds FSC and ISO 14001 environmental certification.
