EDP Award for 3D Moiré Effect
Wednesday 28. May 2014 - One of the innovations presented by swissQprint at Fespa Digital 2014 was a lenticular application: the 3D moiré effect. The lenses required for this are applied via the varnish channel of the swissQprint inkjet printers.
This makes the patented process completely independent of standard lenticular media and opens up a new, lucrative business sector with the attractive depth effect. The effect won the EDP Award in the “Best digital special effect” category.
Every swissQprint machine that has an optional varnish channel is now able to print lenses that produce a 3D effect with a depth effect. Namely on transparent media such as acrylic glass with a thickness of 2 mm, 3 mm or 6 mm.
With independence from lenticular media, the related wastage and effort are no longer an issue either. Because on the one hand these materials tend to vary, and on the other hand the positioning – until the print and the prefabricated lens match – often requires multiple attempts. In contrast, the patented process that swissQprint now offers guarantees efficiency and production security.
The actual highlight is the option to exclude any sections of an image from the effect. They are simply masked during data preparation. This is also
something that is unthinkable with prefabricated lenticular media.
The technical committee and the jury of the EDP Awards 2014/15 have given the 3D moiré effect an award. swissQprint emerged as the winner in the “Best digital special effect” category.
