Blue Sky Print bolsters its prepress workflow

Tuesday 28. January 2014 - Blue Sky Print is following up its investment in a Speedmaster SM 74-5 and a Polar guillotine last year with an upgrade to its Prinect prepress workflow. It has added Signastation imposition software and the PDF Toolbox for debugging and processing PDF files.

The time saving over manual checks and layouts is described as “massive” by the company’s general manager Ian Hobbs. Being able to automate the imposition and identify and convert RGB to CMYK so easily streamlines the production process which will be vital as the company, spurred by an increase in trade work, is looking set to move from flexible single to double day shifts over the coming months.
“Heidelberg has been brilliant at implementing the workflow upgrades and the training has been first rate. We haven’t had to use the Help Desk yet but knowing that support is there for us is peace of mind,” says Mr Hobbs.
The Barnstaple company has also moved from a Sherpa to an Epson proofer and is considering the purchase of a second-hand Chem-free CtP device now to eliminate the chemistry with all the disposal that involves. Blue Sky Print already recycles as much as it can and it is keen to remove chemistry from this aspect of the production process.
It offers a broad commercial print portfolio to its customers from spot colour business cards through to corrugated display units and intricate POS.
