Harland Simon upgrade ink control screens at Clays of Bungay

Monday 30. December 2013 - The famous book printers Clays has selected Harland Simon to provide an upgrade solution replacing the old ink controls on their seven Timson presses.

The upgrade will replace obsolete control electronics with state of the art PCs and touch screen technology whilst maintaining the use of the existing GMI ink duct controller’s, an added bonus is that the new system will provide better in house monitoring and remote diagnostic support facilities.
The presses at the Bungay plant are always very busy and so the time available to complete the changeover has to be managed around Clays intensive production schedules.
Andy Davies, The General Manager at Clays said ‘When we were made aware that we needed to replace the old ink desk controls we decided to spend some time investigating the supplier options that could be available to us. Having spoken with Harland Simon and seen some of their installations, we are very comfortable with our decision to ask Harland Simon to provide the new control system. It is important to us that we feel confident that we have a partner who can be trusted to complete the work without hurting our production.”
David Wallen, Director of Customer Services for Harland Simon said, ‘Our experience with ink controls in the newspaper industry has enabled us to provide a very cost-effective solution that many other customers can benefit from. We are looking forward to working with the team at Clays and we will do whatever it takes to ensure the success of this upgrade’.
The project is expected to be completed in 2014.
