Harland Simon to upgrade GMI ink controls

Thursday 19. December 2013 - Halifax Media Group and the Gaston Gazette, NC have selected Harland Simon to upgrade their ageing ink controls and provide enhanced presetting capabilities. This project comes on the back of a very similar upgrade to the Goss Magnum press at Ann Arbor Offset, an Advance Publications facility which is nearing completion.

With Gaston’s extensive and growing list of commercial customers, such as the New York Times, achieving a top quality product in the quickest time possible drove the need to upgrade. Harland Simon will, along with upgraded consoles and controls, provide its market leading Prima RIPSet as part of the contract.
Prima RIPSet has been the leading presetting system for offset presses around the world for over 15 years. It will provide Gaston’s GMI inkers with detailed and couple specific presets to minimize start up waste and enhance quality from first copy.
As the industry is now well accustomed to Harland Simon’s will be delivered using entirely standard non- proprietary components that are locally available, installation and commissioning will take place around the current print schedule minimizing and potential impact during production.
Charlie Brackley, Sales Manager for Harland Simon, commented, “Our systems and open structure have become the benchmark for all press retrofits and we are pleased to complete another roll out for another successful print centre.”
Gary Snider, Operations Director for The Gaston Gazette commented, “Harland Simon was selected to upgrade our ink presetting system because of the versatility of the total system. The new system will help cut cost in waste reduction and improved quality on press starts. The Harland Simon staff worked diligently to ensure the Prima RIPSet would meet our needs at competitive pricing.”
