Bishops reaches staggering 70 units of B2 Speedmaster
Wednesday 08. May 2013 - "Investment is key to growth," says Gareth Roberts, managing director of Bishops Printers, which has added a further Speedmaster XL 75-10-P to its pressroom portfolio, bringing the total number of B2 Speedmaster units at the Portsmouth factory to a staggering 70.
Bishops has also just installed a new Stahlfolder TH 82, an automated buckle machine with a VSA-82 stacker. Six months ago its sister company The Mailing People took delivery of a Stahlfolder Ti 52.
The 25 year relationship with Heidelberg has been strong and fruitful for the company which has grown from a one man operation to a 221 staff, £20m enterprise.
Today the Bishops Group has three operations under one umbrella: The Graphic Design House (which takes the group into cross-media with websites, mobile and Apps services); Bishops Printers, which supplies bespoke high quality print produced to stringent sustainability standards; and The Mailing People, launched in 2012 and housed in the premises vacated when Bishops expanded its printing operation into an 85,000 sq ft factory a mile away in 2010.
“Our decision to invest in Heidelberg equipment has undoubtedly been a significant contributing factor to our survival and growth over the years. The partnership is close because the level of support they provide is second to none and this enables us to consistently operate to maximum efficiency,” says Mr Roberts.
Features Bishops pinpoints as of particular benefit on the Speedmaster XL 75 include its reliability, residual values and operator friendliness. Productivity is enhanced with the machine’s automated plate changing and self-diagnostics which will reduce make-ready times. The press will run with low alcohol, underlying the company’s policy of upholding good environmental practices.
Print production operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to fulfil customer needs, including the high demands of Premiership football clubs. The company currently runs in excess of 21,750 jobs across 2,371 customers per annum, with an average order value of £983.
Bishops print business has been further boosted offering a joined up print and direct mail service with The Mailing People. Members of the UK Direct Marketing Association, they advise on all aspects of direct mail campaigns, from consultancy and data collection to the most efficient method of postage. Its other services include poly-wrapping, order fulfilment, letter shop, data management, database processing, UK and international postage services and downstream access.
