Pensord adds folding power to match press productivity

Tuesday 12. April 2011 - Pensord Press has returned to Heidelberg for a third Stahlfolder TH 82, an additional machine to meet increased output from the Speedmaster XL 105-8-P that it installed with Inpress Control and Autoplate XL last year.

Karl Gater, operations director, says: “We currently have two TH 82s within our folder range and so adding this one gives further consistency and compatibility. We did look at MBO but Heidelberg offered the best overall package, including service, and it was the operator and shift manager’s choice, too.”
At Pensord work tends to be streamlined into 8, 16 or 32pp sections. By making each folder specialise in a certain format there isn’t the same need for frequent job size changes so automation is not such a key issue. The Blackwood, Gwent, company specialises in magazines and high end promotional literature.
The new TH 82 will be delivered at the end of May and will run 24/7 from the start. This is the end of the company’s planned spend for this year.
Heidelberg introduced the TH/KH series five years ago after a “back to the drawing board” re-think on what levels of automation really helped customers and was cost justifiable. The series that resulted featured 15 sets of technical patents as well as many design patents. These Stahlfolders won both the renowned red dot design award and an IPIA/GATF InterTech Technology Award.
Both these buckle and combination folders from Heidelberg UK continue to sell strongly in the UK. The TH 82 is a 50,000 cycles/hour folder which can handle sheets of 140 x 180mm up to 660 x 1040mm in flat pile feeder mode.
