Caraustar Carton Plant Receives SQF 2000 Code Level 3 Certification

Tuesday 12. April 2011 - Caraustar Industries, Inc. announced today that its Grand Rapids Carton Plant in Grand Rapids, Michigan has been certified as a Safe, Quality Food (SQF) 2000 Code Level 3 facility, meeting the requirements for the Safe Quality Food Institute's (SQFI) Comprehensive Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.

The SQF 2000 Certification covers sector 27 food categories and the manufacture of both printed and unprinted paperboard cartons for direct fill, non-direct fill, flat packed or side seam glued packaging.
The SQF Program is one of the world’s leading food safety and quality management systems, designed to meet the needs of retailers and suppliers worldwide. The Program provides independent certification that a supplier’s food safety and quality management system complies with international and domestic food safety regulations. This enables suppliers to assure their customers that food has been produced, processed, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards, at all levels of the supply chain. SQF is designed as a food safety program, but it also covers product quality, assuring consistent quality and meeting buyer specifications.
SQF 2000 meets the needs of food manufacturers, processors, distributors and brokers with an internationally recognized certification system, along with guidance documents to help you implement the system. Certification provides verifiable assurance that your products have been produced in accordance with all SQF standards, following the HACCP method and local requirements.
GFSI benchmarks existing food standards against food safety criteria, and also looks to develop mechanisms to exchange information in the supply chain, to raise consumer awareness, and to review existing good retail practices.
