Bonnier Corp. Wins Big at Digital Awards
Monday 11. April 2011 - Bonnier Corporation's Popular Science, Parenting and Field & Stream best of the web according to MIN.
Bonnier Corporation took home six awards at Media Industry Newsletter’s (MIN) “Best of the Web” Awards ceremony today. The annual awards recognize digital excellence and honor magazine brands that “did not merely react to changing technology, but drove innovation.”
Popular Science magazine was honored in two major award categories, the first for Best Digital Magazine of the year for PopSci+ , which was hailed by MIN as the digital magazine that “set the pace for everyone else.” Popular Science also won Best Tablet App, both in recognition of its revolutionary Mag+ format as well as its success generating digital subscriptions and boosting brand awareness.
“We are in the early stages of what is certainly one of the most exciting, transformative times in the publishing industry, and we’re thrilled to be recognized by MIN as pioneers in this space,” said Gregg Hano, Group Publisher of Bonnier’s Technology Group.
The Parenting Group won Best Use of Social Media. MIN wrote: “What a better way to engage parents than to ask them to post pictures of their kids. Parenting leveraged this natural reflex to generate the highly successful Facebook Fan of the Week program on its social-network presence … this simple but highly engaging way of activating the community of readers led to an 87 percent increase in Facebook fans and a 174 percent rise in comment activity over seven months.”
Field & Stream’s popular Web show, “Hook Shots,” won the Best Magazine-Branded Show category award barely two years after its launch in April 2009. Written, produced and hosted by Fishing Editor Joe Cermele, “Hook Shots” was recognized as “the epitome of Web-based video ingenuity.”
Two previously announced honors were also recognized at the awards ceremony, including Bonnier R&D’s win as Digital Team of the Year and Rachel Fishman Feddersen’s induction into MIN’s Digital Hall of Fame. She’s editorial director, digital content, strategy and design for The Parenting Group.
