Postmedia Network Appoints Rob McLaughlin Editor-in-Chief of two Saskatchewan Newspapers and Deputy Publisher of StarPhoenix
Monday 28. March 2011 - Postmedia Network today announced the appointment of Rob McLaughlin to the new position of Editor-in-Chief, The StarPhoenix (Saskatoon) and Leader-Post (Regina), and Deputy Publisher, The StarPhoenix, effective April 4, 2011.
“Rob is one of Canadas leading innovators in the field of digital content,” said Marty Klyne, Group Publisher Leader-Post / The StarPhoenix. “He is an international award-winning executive producer, journalist and digital content specialist with a successful track record of leading change inside traditional media organizations and an exciting addition to our team.”
The Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Publisher (EIC/DP) will oversee continued advancements being made by both teams on the Digital First transformation of the newsrooms, driving innovation, engagement and revenue across Saskatchewans leading media brands. As part of the transformation process, the EIC/DP will work closely with other departments to effect changes that drive revenue, stabilize and grow circulation, build print and online audiences and better serve customers.
Most recently, at the National Film board of Canada as Director, Digital Content and Strategy, Rob was a member of the executive team that led the programming and distribution strategy for digital platforms ensuring efficient structural and operational organization and delivery of digital production.
Prior to this, as Director of Digital Programming at CBC, Rob led in the strategic, creative and business planning and development for all digital platforms in the areas of Documentaries, TV AE and Network Radio Programming.
Rob is a dedicated career journalist who takes pride in his ability to deliver successful digital strategies and productions across a wide range of genres and is asked to speak regularly on harnessing the power of social networks to capture and develop new audiences and communities on new platforms.
He and his spouse, Irene Gannitsos were raised in Saskatchewan and met at the University of Saskatchewan where Rob received his BA and then went on to University of Kings College at Dalhousie to receive his Bachelor of Journalism. Rob and Irene will be returning to Saskatchewan to live in Saskatoon with their two young children.
