Intelligence abounds at interpack 2011
Monday 21. March 2011 - Domino extends i-Tech Intelligent Technology line-up
interpack 2011 will see global product identification and traceability specialist Domino add to its new i-Tech intelligent Technology product range with launches including a high performance scribing laser and a cassette version of its V-Series thermal transfer overprinter.
Currently rolling out globally, i-Tech products are designed to deliver maximum productivity and value, deploying an array of smart technologies to make production lines lower maintenance, lower cost and more efficient.
The D620i 60W scribing laser debuting at the show is a high-performance addition to the D-Series i-Tech line-up. Despite housing Dominos most powerful laser yet, each component of the modular system is remarkably compact, making for easy integration on host machines.
The D620i offers a new high-speed option – now available across the D-Series i-Tech range – which allows users to achieve 20% greater throughput. The i-Tech scan head is positioned at an angle of 45? relative to the direction of travel of packs on the line, thereby increasing the available linear marking area. This in turn increases the space and time to scribe complex code information. In addition, higher energy density delivers the precision marking required for accurate reproduction of small 2D codes. The D620i features an IP65 industrial enclosure, making it suitable for use in challenging industrial environments.
The addition of the V220i to the companys range of thermal transfer overprinters brings Dominos patented ribbon economy to a wide range of potential applications in flexible packaging. Already offering class-leading runtime between ribbon changes, the potential uptime of the V-Series receives a further boost thanks to the cassette mechanism of the V220i: this allows high capacity ribbons (1040mm in length) to be exchanged in seconds.
This is the second product in the new i-Tech V-Series range and builds on the capabilities of its V120i sibling by offering a choice of printheads (32mm or 55mm), and the facility to handle complex coding information including linear and 2D barcodes and logos. Onboard intelligence permits management of codes via databases.
The new V-Series is capable of using up to 60% less ink ribbon than its predecessor and also weighs 50% less.
A further interpack highlight is the A320i continuous ink jet printer. By incorporating an array of i-Tech intelligent Technology features, Domino has delivered a printer that completely eliminates the need for planned servicing – the first in the industry to do so. The printer delivers tangible environmental benefits, using 90% less system ink and 50% less ink solvent than its predecessor. The A320i is also 40% lighter and incorporates energy-saving software.
The new products feature QuickStep, a new, simplified graphical user interface that will become the standard platform for all Domino coding equipment. QuickStep provides effortless control and status reporting, eliminating complex menus and parameters in favour of simple, intuitive set-up routines requiring minimal operator involvement.
The new A- D- and V-Series coders join a line-up that will showcase Dominos coding and marking capabilities from product to pallet, with a portfolio incorporating the widest range of technologies for primary, secondary and tertiary coding.
Domino group managing director Nigel Bond comments, “Our i-Tech intelligent Technology concept was first introduced to the market late last year and the feedback from customers subsequently has been universally positive. interpack will see the next step in the process of rolling the concept out across the Domino range and we look forward to presenting the benefits of i-Tech intelligent Technology to a global audience.”
