Sun Chemical announces a price increase for its Liquid Ink products in Europe
Friday 04. March 2011 - Sun Chemical has announced an 8-12% price increase for its Liquid Ink Packaging products in Europe effective 1 April 2011. Ongoing raw material supply shortages and extreme cost increases for certain materials are continuing to have a serious effect on printing ink production.
There are a number of factors that have led to the raw material shortages and subsequent rise in costs. An increase in demand from emerging markets continues to have a significant impact on supply as well as production restrictions by the Indian Government and enforcement of waste water treatment investment with all manufacturers, are limiting supply of key materials.
Specifically, key raw materials such as acrylic acid, nitrocellulose, titanium dioxide, isocyanates, polyols, red and blue pigments are subject to extremely tight supply and in particular this is affecting the Liquid Ink market.
Felipe Mellado, Chief Marketing Officer for Sun Chemical, commented: “The unprecedented volatility in the supply of raw materials is challenging the entire industry. Sun Chemical continues to work hard to offset some of the raw material cost increases, but with shortages continuing and in some cases deteriorating, this move has become unavoidable.”
