VELPRINT installs first HP Indigo 5500 press in Malta

Monday 31. January 2011 - HP today announced that VELPRINT Limited. of Malta, has installed the first HP Indigo press 5500 on the island to produce short-run projects for new and existing customers.

“Our customers have approached us with new jobs and without the HP Indigo press, we wouldn’t have been able to provide a cost-effective solution for the small amount of print required,” said Vincent Vella, director, VELPRINT Limited. “Our customers have been very impressed with the quality and fast turnaround.”
According to VELPRINT Limited., there are significant opportunities for digital print growth in Malta. “The concept of direct personalised marketing and the use of variable data is a key tool for marketers that Maltese businesses are yet to fully explore,” explained Vincent Vella.
The HP Indigo press 5500 combines the look and feel of traditional offset print with genuine photo quality. The press’s variable data printing capabilities, wide colour gamut and white ink option enables VELPRINT Limited. to broaden its product and service offering.
In addition, VELPRINT Limited. is using HP SmartStream Designer software as its main imposition and job preparation software providing robust variable data printing and imposition tools designed specifically to optimise output.
“We can now print on a wide range of substrates from 115gsm to 350gsm and can offer transparent, coloured and other media using the HP ElectroInk White,” said Vincent Vella. “Now that we can provide our customers with both digital and conventional printing, we have more flexibility to meet our clients’ needs and extend our services to customers that we wouldn’t have been able to accommodate before.”
According to VELPRINT Limited. the printing industry in Malta is oversaturated with many players in the industry. However, the company believes that there are good prospects for companies who are willing to innovate and invest in digital equipment.
The family owned commercial printing business was founded in 1986 and has 22 employees with a customer base including the tourism and the communications sector.
