Xerox Honors 12 Inventors with New Anne Mulcahy Inventor Award
Thursday 02. December 2010 - Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) presented twelve of its scientists and engineers the first annual Anne Mulcahy Inventor Award, an honor created to shine the spotlight on inventors whose patents opened up new growth opportunities for the company.
Named in honor of Xerox’s retired chairman and chief executive officer, Anne Mulcahy, the awards were presented to eight recipients on Monday in Rochester by Mulcahy, Ursula Burns, Xerox chairman and CEO; Jim Firestone, president of Xerox Operations Group; Wim Appelo, president of Xerox Global Business and Services Group; and Sophie Vandebroek, chief technology officer and president of the Xerox Innovation Group.
“During her tenure, Anne was an amazing champion for innovation. This award recognizes scientists and engineers that generate strategic intellectual property portfolios,” said Vandebroek. “The inventors honored this year are innovators who are excellent at dreaming up an idea and turning it into differentiated technology or service that addresses customers’ pain points and drives high business value for Xerox.”
Scientists and engineers receiving this Anne Mulcahy Inventor Award span activities from early stage research to product development to manufacturing. All of these inventors have worked on patents for Xerox’s most recognizable products and services. Awardees include:
Peter Gulvin, senior research scientist, Xerox Research Center Webster, contributions to Xerox’s microelectromechanical systems patent portfolio, which includes solid ink stick print heads used in ColorQube devices.
Robert Loce, principal scientist, Xerox Research Center Webster, contributions to Xerox’s digital imaging patent portfolio, specifically the iGen product family.
Lalit K. Mestha, principal scientist, Xerox Research Center Webster, contributions to color accuracy in Xerox production printing devices.
Doug Herrmann, lead engineer, Marketing Development Group, contributions to iGen4 printing press.
Matt DeRoller, software development manager, Global Technology and Offering Development Group, contributions to Xerox Office Services in managed print services, including development of the Mobile Print Solution.
Chieh-Min Cheng, area manager and principal engineer, Consumables Development & Manufacturing Group, contributions to Xerox’s Emulsion Aggregation Toner process technology development and to office and production printing devices.
Robert Yu, principal scientist, Consumables Development & Manufacturing Group, contributions to imaging technology in production printing products.
Ramesh Nagarajan, technical manager, Software & Electronics Development Group, contributions to invention proposals related to image processing and image quality, recently used in ColorQube devices.
Previously, Xerox researchers in centers outside Rochester received the Anne Mulcahy award for their contributions to Xerox. Awardees include:
Brent Jones, principal engineer and prolific inventor, Marking Development Group, contributions to the solid ink stick design and patent portfolio. He is based in Wilsonville, Oregon.
Victor Ciriza, engineer, Xerox Research Centre Europe in Grenoble, France for contributions to the sustainability of the Enterprise Print Services portfolio.
Nan-Xing Hu, manager, Key Component Materials Design & Synthesis Area at Xerox Research Centre of Canada. Hu reached his 100th patent in 2010, and was recognized for his contributions to core Xerographic business.
Yiliang Wu, principle scientist, Xerox Research Centre of Canada, contributions to design and composition of nanosilver inks.
“The progress we’ve made as a company is a result of the dedication and determination of our inventors,” said Appelo. “These people are the heart and soul of Xerox – a company that was founded, built and sustained by leadership in technology and innovation.”
Xerox employees who have obtained at least one patent were eligible for the award. The awardees were evaluated based on those patents that have high business value to Xerox as well as the creation of a strategic patent portfolio that target future growth.
The event also honored the 2009 patent recipients with 230 inventors in attendance.
