BOSCH LAUNCHES NEXT GENERATION PRESTO D2

Thursday 25. November 2010 - Offering High Production Volumes with Small Footprint

· Can top load or feed place at high speeds of up to 500 products per minute
· Standardization of machine modules allows for fast delivery times and low investment costs
· High machine uptime due to easy-to-clean, hygienic design and improved access to infeed and collation chains
Bosch Packaging Technology launches the next generation Presto D2, offering an efficient and flexible robotic solution for top loading or feed placing. With the new machine design that allows for increased speeds of up to 500 products per minute, the Presto D2 can support high production volumes with a small footprint. This speed combined with high efficiency results in a fast return on investment (ROI) for manufacturers.
The new Presto D2, based on Delta robotic technology from Bosch, is ideally suited for handling food products such as biscuits, cookies and bakery products, and non-food items such as medical goods. The robot picks a group of products from a collation chain and top loads them into various types of containers, including trays, cartons and cases, or directly feeds the products into conveyors or infeed chains of wrappers and side load cartoners. Its product-specific end-effectors ensure gentle product handling regardless of the product type for high product quality and reduced waste, eliminating unnecessary production costs.
The Presto D2 features standardized machine modules and a reduced number of parts to facilitate ease of maintenance and reduce spare part costs. In addition to low initial investment costs, manufacturers benefit from short delivery times due to the limited engineering efforts needed to fulfill customer orders, resulting in fast time to market and quick returns.
Thanks to its hygienic design and excellent accessibility to the infeed and collation chain, the Presto D2 is easy to clean for maximum uptime. The open machine design enables simple integration with third-party equipment while the robot’s small footprint optimizes usage of valuable plant space.
“Manufacturers across industries are seeking to make smart capital investments in production and packaging technology that can produce fast returns. With these market demands in mind, we designed the Presto D2 for high performance and maximum uptime while improving its cost-effectiveness. It also meets the trend towards more stringent hygiene requirements for packaging equipment through its easy-to-clean design. The robot’s flexibility, ease of integration and gentle product handling translate into real benefits on production lines,” said Daniela Thiele, Director Product Management and Marketing, Bosch Packaging Technology.
With the Bosch Gemini 3.0 control software, the Presto D2 allows for online simulation of new production runs. This tool eliminates the need to halt production for set up, speeding installation times, boosting uptime and facilitating machine operation. Ease of use is further enhanced through quick product changeovers at the push of a button.
The Presto D2 can be easily integrated with other Bosch equipment, such as wrapper machines. This modular machine design approach, called Module ++, allows Bosch to offer complete, flexible and cost-effective packaging line solutions from one source. The business unit Packaging Machines, which forms part of Bosch Packaging Technology, specializes in standard machines for flexible packaging, product handling and secondary packaging.
