Munken for Mandela
Thursday 18. November 2010 - 182 tonnes of Munken Pure 120 gsm from Arctic Paper was used for the first edition print of Nelson Mandelas new book, entitled Conversations with Myself. Published by Pan Macmillan, this new publication is a compilation of personal files, correspondence, prison notes and extracts from the previously unpublished sequel to Mandelas autobiography Long Walk to Freedom.
The book was printed by CPI UK Mackays, the leading manufacturer of trade books in the UK, and is already on its 4th reprint since its launch on 12th October.
The choice of paper for Conversations With Myself was exacting: it had to be on an uncoated grade with sound environmental credentials, good bulk and high opacity but without compromise on quality. CPI UK Mackays knew exactly what to recommend, choosing Munken Pure 120 gsm as their product of choice.

Mackays were particularly looking for smoothness on both sides and excellent bulk. Andy added, “Another consideration was stock availability given the tight schedules for both the initial run and subsequent reprints; it was crucial that the chosen stock would be delivered quickly from our initial orders. Munken Pure 120 gsm is an uncoated paper, manufactured by Arctic Papers Munkedals Mill; it is both FSC and PEFC certified. Munken is produced without compromise to water usage as Munkedals has an enviable reputation with regard to low water usage and natural purification processes.
The initial run and subsequent reprints were printed on a Timson Royal Zero Make-ready press and bound on a Muller Martini Corona binder.
