Impressive light advertising installations receive the Best Practice Award for Light Advertising
Tuesday 09. November 2010 - They optimally blend in with their environment and are at the same time totally new: The winning projects in this year's Best Practice Award for Light Advertising. Following on from the successful première last year, awards were given for the second time for finished light advertising installations at the viscom frankfurt 2010.
Three awards were given by the jury, which again consisted of journalists from the magazines WERBETECHNIK and LICHT, representatives of the Zentralverband Werbetechnik e.V., EFRA Lichtwerbung Ernst Franke GmbH und Co. KG and the viscom organiser Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH. The most diverse projects both from the industrial as well as the public-cultural sector are included in the list of winners.
Bertelmann GmbH: Freestanding Light Concept Merkur Spielothek
The development of a standard for the outdoor advertising of Merkur-Spielothek – this was the intention and outcome of the “Freestanding Light Concept Merkur Spielothek”, for which Bertelsmann GmbH received one of the coveted Best Practice Awards for Light Advertising 2010. In cooperation with Merkur-Spielothek GmbH & Co. KG, a building concept was developed that should establish a standard for building new freestanding arcade lighting. A standard for ensuring a high recognition effect where visitors are concerned, as well as uniform production quality. The freestanding layout designed by Merkur had to be implemented and creatively supported through industry specific expertise in the light advertising sector. This included the development of a lighting strip (building contour), a welcoming doorway as well as a dimmable and quickly reprogrammable animated LED light in cooperation with the Toni Maroni and Hansen Neon companies. Naturally, the already well-known illuminated logo of the arcade was also integrated in the new overall concept.
The jury praised the concept that is outstanding due to its highly detailed finish, which ensures that it can be optimally utilized for future orders. The design of the lighting concept as well as the taking into account of the ecological aspects during implementation was also outstanding.
Werbetechnik Zinke GmbH: laMèche Coiffeur
Werbetechnik Zinke GmbH was also given an award for the “laMèche Coiffeur” project, which consisted of the complete reconfiguration of a hairdressing salon including a new logo. The challenge of this project consisted of externally transporting the visual appearance of the interior. Gilded raised lettering with internal LED lighting was used both inside as well as outside the salon. In the hairdressing salon, these were fitted with spacers directly on slabs of slate. The appearance of the slabs of slate was utilized externally by means of high-grade digital printing. Bevelled basic elements were laminated with these and thus provide a contrast for the gilded lettering. The power supply for the lettering and the square elements is provided by a cable duct incorporated below the balcony, unobtrusively in the design in an outstanding manner. Thanks to the grey, heavy-duty foil, the disturbing white window frame is hardly noticeable.
The jury was won over by the implementation of a roughly described concept by the firm Werbetechnik Zinke, which incorporated many of their own ideas in the design. The complete project is outstanding due to the high level of creativity combined with accurate manual implementation. The result is a strong before-and-after contrast.
OSRAM GmbH: water towers as light object in Oberhausen
The Cultural Capital Ruhr2010 was the occasion. The outcome was a successful lighting project at the Oberhausen ICE railway station, which has now been awarded the Special Prize for this year’s Best Practice Award for Light Advertising. With the assistance of OSRAM, the non-profit association kitev. (culture in the tower) has refurbished the three clocks on the water tower of the railway station and transformed this into an art project under the auspices of Ruhr2010.
This involved equipping all hour markings and the pointers with RGB LED modules from OSRAM, which can be individually actuated via a DMX controller. The production with the clocks is influenced by the time and the atmospheric conditions. The clocks additionally support the artistic depiction of the video installation in the circumferential ribbon glazing directly above. These were funded by the LVR (Landschaftsverband Rheinland). Because every hour marking and all pointers of the clocks can be individually actuated, innumerable colour possibilities arise, which enable a wide range for every type of lighting. By means of this artistic project, the city of Oberhausen has not only been given back its railway station clocks, but can also come up with a new, urban attraction, since the project has provided the city with a cultural advantage.
