CPI to feature in BBC television series

Friday 22. October 2010 - CPI is to feature in a new BBC television series entitled ‘The Beauty of Books’.

The series of four half hour programmes will focus on some of the world’s greatest masterpieces of the printed word. The documentary will examine works such as Codex Sinaiticus, the Winchester Bible, the Luttrell Psalter, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The series follows the successful ‘The Beauty of Maps’ which was screened earlier this year.

The four-part film takes a journey through the history of books, coming right up to date with a look at modern book manufacturing techniques. CPI’s purpose-built Croydon factory was chosen as the location for the footage, illustrating the latest printing and binding processes.

Footage for ’The Beauty of Books’ was recorded at CPI Bookmarque yesterday, with a film crew from Tern TV, the production company commissioned by the BBC, spending the afternoon at the site. Mark Grice, General Manager of CPI Bookmarque, said: “We are very proud to have been chosen as an example of state-of-the-art book printing and we’re delighted to have taken part in the film. We’re always very happy at Bookmarque to show people what we can do.”

‘The Beauty of Books’ is scheduled to be screened on BBC Four around March 2011.
