Il Messaggero boosts production quality with Fujifilm Brillia LH-NN2 plates

Thursday 07. October 2010 - Il Messaggero, founded in Rome, Italy in 1878, under the direction of Luigi Cesana, is one of the most long standing Italian newspapers. It is currently the most popular newspaper in the capital with a circulation exceeding 200,000 copies and has a readership concentrated mainly in the central regions of Italy: Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise, Umbria and Marche.

In 1968, Il Messaggero was the first newspaper in Italy to open a graphic design department, and with its brand new layout revolutionised the look of the paper, spearheading changes in the Italian graphic and photographic daily press.

Antonio Mastrodonato, Technical Director at Il Messaggero, comments, “We have used Fujifilm products for several years and have been consistently delighted with the stability and the ease of use when it comes to producing our newspaper. When the new LH-NN2 plates became available in Europe, we were convinced that we needed to take a look at this product, and carry out some extensive testing.” He continues, “We were extremely pleased with the results of the tests, as the quality and consistency achieved has surpassed our expectations, so we have decided to install the LH-NN2 plates on all four of our production lines.”

Suitable for print runs of up to 300,000 copies and designed specifically to meet the needs of the newspaper printing industry, with 830nm diode laser platesetters, the main features of Fujifilm’s Brillia LH-NN2 plate include: high sensitivity for a longer laser life; wide exposure latitude for stability and repeatability; long developer life for reducing costs and lowering environmental impact and finally, the benefits of Fujifilm’s patented MultiGrain technology for ink reduction and a better ink/water balance.

Francesco Auciello, Il Messaggero’s Plant Manager adds, “The Fujifilm LP-DZ developer, exclusive to the newspaper environment, allows us to clean our processor tank and developer roller every 20,000 plates with a very fast and easy to perform water rinse. This in turn enables us to reduce downtime and maintenance costs. In addition to this, the Fujifilm MultiGrain technology is also of great advantage to us, as it allows for a quicker startup time with excellent ink / water balance and a reduction in the number of waste copies.”

Auciello concludes, “The new LH-NN2 plate also has environmental benefits, as it is now shipped in a new ‘bulk’ packaging style, which helps to reduce the risk of damage occurring during pallet handling as well as cutting down on paper and cardboard waste.”
