Arctic Paper; sharing their knowledge on water usage
Tuesday 24. August 2010 - Fresh water is becoming increasingly scarce throughout the world. Arctic Papers Munkedals Mill realise that this resource must be used with great caution and careful water usage and consumption has been fundamental to their working practice for decades.
Arctic Paper Munkedals Mill is currently working with the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) who has recently initiated work with a new ISO standard that will measure the “Water Footprint” in commercial operations. Munkedal mill is sharing their knowledge and information; the goal is a standard that shows water usage and also possible effects on the used water.
The Swedish mill is situated in a sensitive natural environment and Arctic Paper has a long tradition of certified environmental work at the site. Today, Arctic Paper Munkedals is one of the foremost mills in the world with regard to low water usage and natural purification processes: where other mills may use 10 – 16 litres per kilogram of paper, the mill in Munkedal uses less than three litres of water. The mill also carries out an advanced purification process before the water is released back into the recycling system.

Arctic Paper grades are not only accredited with FSC and PEFC but also produced without compromise to their water usage.”
The work with the new ISO standard is expected to be completed in two to three years.
