Borealis and Borouge sponsor CRU 4th World Wire & Cable Conference 2010
Wednesday 12. May 2010 - Borealis and Borouge, leading providers of innovative, value creating plastics solutions for the wire and cable industry, will lead sponsor CRU International's eminent World Wire and Cable Conference in Sweden in 2010. Sponsorship of the 4th annual conference reflects the companies' active commitment to promote discussion and drive investment in technology and product innovations to support the industry's continued success.
The World Wire and Cable Conference provides delegates from across the sector with updates and insight into the latest movements of the worldwide wire and cable industry from the leaders in the field. More than 250 participants attended the 2009 event, regarded as a key networking venue and source of information on market dynamics and strategy issues. The 2010 conference will be held at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden, from June 4-6, 2010.
Sweden is a key strategic location for Borealis’ on-going enhancement of its capability to provide advanced materials to the growing wire and cable market. Its EUR 400 million investment in the company’s Stenungsund site, to be inaugurated in June 2010, will enable Borealis to maximise flexible feedstock and increase total capacity to 700,000 t/y. This makes Borealis’ Northern European base a leading world scale polyethylene (PE) facility for infrastructure applications.
Borealis’ step change technological solutions respond directly to its customers’ needs for production, installation and cable-system lifetime improvements. The capacity expansion at Stenungsund, which includes a new 350,000 t/y high-pressure low density Polyethylene (LDPE) plant, and modernisation and streamlining of compounding and related material handling facilities, builds on Borealis’ existing Borstar technology platform. It will secure the continuing, high quality level of its well-known Supercure and Visico insulation brands for high and medium voltage cables.
Expansion of Borealis’ capabilities at Stenungsund extends to its on-site Innovation Centre, Borealis’ competence centre for wire and cable product development. The addition of a new pilot cable line reinforces its commitment to support customer innovation by shortening development lead times.
“As industry demand for reliable cross-linked PE power cables continues to grow, and especially for EHV, HV, MV and DC cables, we will continue our approach of the last 50 years of working together with customers to understand and respond to their needs,” comments Marc Hubert, Borealis’ Vice President for Wire and Cable. “That way we can deliver the next-generation value-adding products that drive their development of the market applications for the future. The World Wire and Cable Conference 2010 provides players from across the value chain with a valuable opportunity to discuss the latest challenges facing the industry and to cooperate on securing the continuing success of this innovative market. We are pleased to lend our support to this important industry event.”
“We are proud that the two leaders in the wire and cable industry Borealis and Borouge will be our lead sponsors for this year’s World Wire & Cable Conference”, says Nicola Coslett, CEO CRU Events. “The conference is a key forum to exchange information and to see how to continue to provide the most effective and high value solutions to the market. It presents a valuable opportunity for the global leaders in the field.”
