At Chinaplas 2010, Borealis’ joint-venture Borouge, a leading provider of innovative and value-creating plastics solutions, demonstrates its commitment to applying world-class innovative plastics solutions to support the challenges and demands of China and Asia’s rapidly growing industries, such as the infrastructure, automotive and advanced packaging markets.
“As a key event for the plastics industry, Chinaplas is an ideal platform for Borouge to showcase our innovative solutions and to demonstrate our commitment to supporting the growth industries in China,” says William Yau, CEO of Borouge’s Marketing Company. “With our leading technologies, new manufacturing facilities and enhanced sales and technical services capabilities in China, we are confident to meet the expectations and needs of our customers, helping them to prosper in today’s challenging landscape.”
Continuous investments in the Chinese market
Beyond investments in people and improved supply chain processes aimed at increasing its ability to serve the Chinese market, Borouge inaugurates on April 20 its new manufacturing facility in Shanghai capable of providing 50,000 tonnes of compounded resins annually to the rapidly growing automotive and household appliances industries. The base resins for this plant are supplied from Borouge’s polyolefins complex in Abu Dhabi, where Borouge is currently tripling its polyolefins capacity to 2 million tonnes per year (t/y) by mid 2010. An additional 2.5 million t/y is scheduled for 2013.
Local supply is also being strengthened with the establishment of logistics hubs in Shanghai and Guangzhou, providing improved and flexible responsiveness to local customer demands, as well as consistency and security of supply.
Borouge is also establishing an application centre at its manufacturing plant in Shanghai to enhance its ability to execute research and development and conduct product performance reviews in close proximity to its customers in the automotive and appliance markets. Together with the Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi, which will be completed at the end of 2011, and the significant innovation capability of Borealis in Europe, the centre aims to offer local customers the opportunity to provide truly differentiated plastics to the market. Borouge is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), one of the world’s major oil companies, and Austrian based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions.
Supporting education in China
In addition to other universities offering Borouge Scholarships, the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou and the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, Borouge announces that student scholarships will now also be offered to students at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology. This will enable successful students to excel in polymer sciences and engineering and support the rapidly developing plastics industry in China. Borouge also offers an International Scholarship to a high performing student aiming to further their polymer sciences and engineering studies at the Master or Doctorate level.
