Presentation of sophisticated project business:
the Group presents itself as an innovation pool in the field
of medical plastic systems for diagnostics,
medical technology and the pharma industry
More than 11,000 specialist visitors from the medical product industry are expected at the Stuttgart Exhibition Center for Medtech Europe 2010 on March 23 – 25. On behalf of a lead¬ing diagnostics group the experts from Gerresheimer Medical Plastic Systems have developed a new generation of lancing devices for blood sugar measurement. In other areas as well its exhibition promises interesting new ideas for the world of pharmaceutics, diagnostics and medical technology (Stand 434).
As a full-service provider to this industry Gerresheimer Medical Plastic Systems is a preferred address worldwide. “The Division comprises a highly competent global network which constantly gains new ground through the fulfillment of demanding tasks”, says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of Marketing and Communication for the Gerresheimer Group. With technology bases in the USA, South America and Asia, this Division concentrates exclusively on custo¬mized solutions – supplying a complete value-added package from the first idea right through to the finished CE-labeled product. It individually develops not only the product but also the production process, designs and builds the associated tooling and special machi¬nery, manufactures under clean-room conditions and organizes the international logistics. On the basis of a range of current reference products, Gerresheimer Medical Plastic Systems displays in Stuttgart an impressive cross-section of this outstanding competence and performance spectrum.
For diagnostics the Group presents a wide range of disposables for laboratory and analysis work and point-of-care tests for practices and clinics – here however concentrating primarily on products for diabetics to allow pain-free blood-taking. These include the lancing device now in its fifth generation, which Gerresheimer has devel¬oped for a prominent diagnostics company.
Blood-taking by means of the lancing device and measurement of the blood sugar value – previously two separate activities for the patient – now basically require just a single step. The patient can also use the lancing device at any time by leaving it docked into the measuring device; the two appliances then communicate as a system unit. Instead of the test strip which in the past had to be changed for every application, the product developers integrate a new type of tape with fields for fifty tests at a time. Another advantage is grip-free one-hand operation. The new lancing device also works faster and more quietly and so, particularly in mobile use, more discreetly than any of its predecessors. And although its magazine contains the same number of lancets of the same size it has overall become smaller, slimmer and more robust.
For medical technology the Division focuses on another three very important areas: dialysis, surgery and home-care products. Today for example more than fifteen million people worldwide – with a rising trend – rely on regular detoxification of the blood. Medical-technol¬ogy customers are served by Gerresheimer here with complex systems and disposables for dialysis and blood therapy, but also with precision components for surgical products such as disposables for a scalp clip system for artificial respiration or minimum-invasion oper¬ations. For the growing market of home therapy and healthcare the Division produces a wide variety of system products, including high-caliber devices for personal blood-pressure measurement or for example soft lasers to stimulate cell energy.
For pharmaceutics the specialists in medical plastic systems concentrate above all on two key areas of drug delivery: on the one hand inhalers and on the other pen systems. Their product spectrum for treatment of respiratory disease comprises powder and capsule inhalers and nebulizers covering every system variant for targeted delivery of drugs. Last but not least in the case of pen systems Gerres¬heimer reaps the benefits of its special competence in the field of diabetes: insulin pens form the most important segment of this system category. Apart from realization of the complex plastic system, the Group offers its customers an attractive additional synergy benefit: as one of a small number of suppliers worldwide, Gerresheimer specializes at the same time in glass products for injec¬tions, and can therefore produce pen systems – together with the tailor-made cartridge – completely in house.
