Bobst India launches production of TITAN ER610 slitter rewinder

Monday 23. November 2009 - TITAN is pleased to confirm that it has recently commenced production of the ER610 compact, twin-shaft cantilever slitter rewinder at Bobst Group’s production facility, Bobst India Pvt. Ltd., located in Pune, approx. 200km south-east of Mumbai.

Production of machinery and modules have been established at Bobst India for several years and this professionally managed and efficient facility was able to make capacity available for TITAN ER610 production, deliveries of which have now begun to customers worldwide.

A new demonstration area at Bobst India is also of particular benefit to TITAN customers who would like to run slitting trials on the machine before making their final decision to purchase. It is hoped that this will greatly enhance the confidence of the customer in the product and should help to accelerate the process of investment decision making. The TITAN ER610 slitter rewinder was launched at the K exhibition in Germany in October 2007 and has been successfully installed by many converters in various countries.

Bobst India Sales & Services Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated in 1995 and 4 years later acquired a 300 sq. m. industrial unit on the outskirts of Pune. In 2000, the company was re-named Bobst India Pvt. Ltd. and bought 67,000 sq. m. of land at the same location, where building of the current premises started in 2002.

Originally, the main activity of the company was the re-conditioning of BOBST machines followed by the assembly of new machines and modules, which commenced late in 2003. This included production of the SCHIAVI CL 450 compact solventless laminator, winders and unwinders for SCHIAVI and ROTOMEC flexo and gravure printing presses, the BOBST LOADER and MARTIN MULTILOADER machines.

The TITAN ER610 is available in two widths, 1350 mm & 1650 mm (53 & 65 ins) and runs at 450 m/min (1476 ft/min), with an option for slit widths as narrow as 35 mm (1.37 ins). The machine will process plain, printed, coated or metallized film from 20 to 200 micron in thickness, as well as various laminates (film/film, film/foil, film/paper, foil/paper, film/foil/paper) and paper from 40 to 200 gsm.

Several ER610 slitters have already been installed for customers in India this year which already demonstrates its success in this market as a high performance machine, despite a strong level of locally produced machines.

India has an ever increasing potential for sales of high performance slitter rewinders as customers demand greater accuracy in slitting, web tension, consistency of roll quality and flexibility to run various materials, with minimum dependence on operator skills. With the TITAN ER610 now in production locally, Bobst India is very well positioned to exploit the potential of this expanding market.

Another important aspect of the Group’s success is the local service and customer support operations for all product lines at Bobst India. This has been increasingly developed in recent years and now comprises 10 well trained and qualified senior technical personnel. This year has seen an increasing number of machines being entrusted to Bobst India for maintenance, which is a positive vote of confidence that customers have placed in the company’s professional operations.

Technical audits performed by highly experienced BOBST service personnel for some of its most important customers have been very well received and have resulted in agreements to continue this process. Reports of such pro-active measures have also helped to generate similar enquiries from other customers seeking to maximize the productivity of their equipment, particularly when new capital investment programmes have had to be postponed.

Solutions for reducing waste, increasing productivity and operator safety, and other upgrades in specification can be provided by the Bobst India service team to meet customers’ specific requirements. Service engineers and technicians are based in various strategic geographic locations and are on call on a 24/7 basis to ensure that customers in any part of this vast nation can be served as quickly and effectively as possible.

Advanced modes of communication also ensure that engineers can assist the maintenance team on site without even being present. This saves time and increases machine productivity, both crucial to ensuring healthy profitability for the converter.

In the past 6 years, Bobst India has expanded considerably from 40 to approx. 140 employees and having acquired a further 100,000 sq. m. of land in 2005, Bobst India has been able to further extend its premises to accommodate its growing workforce and production facilities.

All TITAN machines have the benefit of Bobst Group’s global customer service & support operations and Bobst India provides this service for customers both in India and the surrounding regions of SE Asia.
