NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN UV CURING PUSH EFFICIENCY FOR NEWSPRINT.

Wednesday 30. September 2009 - Pushing UV efficiency to reduce carbon emissions and press operating costs for newspaper printers are lead developments from GEW for IFRA 2009. These new developments will feature alongside its IsoCure UV curing lamp head for newsprint applications such as covers and inserts in full colour.

IsoCure can be supplied in widths from 50cm (20″) to 195cm (77″) for conventional free radical applications or as a nitrogen inert atmosphere module where the requirement is to minimise oxygen levels within the UV curing chamber and print at higher speeds. Energy reduction of up 30% is achieved through GEW’s e-Brick electronic power supply with dichroic reflector technology providing increased UV output and optimum temperature control. The company cites a free radical UV installation on a press curing 35,000 printed copies per hour using less than 14kW of UV power per side. Including the UV system’s cooling fan, this equates to a total energy consumption of just 30kW per web.

A new range of energy-efficient peripheral technologies designed to further reduce operating costs and benefit the environment will also feature. These include intelligent power management software to boost energy savings when the UV system is on standby, cost-effective UV monitoring tools and proactive servicing of systems in the field via the internet.

GEW manufactures UV curing systems for all makes of printing and converting machines including specialised applications and supplies both original equipment manufacturers and upgrades for existing equipment. Established in 1991, the company has built a strong reputation as a global supplier of UV curing systems in the graphic arts industry. Based near London, England, GEW manufactures all its products in-house, which are available together with spare parts and after-sales service through satellite offices and its distribution network around the world.
