Fuji Xerox Releases Sustainability Report 2009
Wednesday 30. September 2009 - Aiming to Realize Global Management Rooted in Local Communities
Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. today released its Sustainability Report 2009 (English and Chinese editionsNote 1), which summarizes the fiscal 2008 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of both the company and its affiliates.
This year’s report follows the theme: “Hand in Hand With Society.” It covers the efforts of employees in Japan and around the world to face the social issues of their respective communities, as well as their approach to creating a sustainable society.
Featured in Sustainability Report 2009 are activities that help build an organization in which employees can work energetically, a resources recycling system in China that commenced operation in 2008, and housing construction assistance in a slum district in the Philippines. The report also features a discussion between top executives of Fuji Xerox and Ms. Sadako Ogata, president of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), through which the top executives obtained hints on how to root global corporate management in local communities.

Top Commitment (Message from the top management)
Tadahito Yamamoto, president of Fuji Xerox, discusses the company’s basic stance in undertaking management that meets customer expectations, in order to contribute to the advance of a sustainable society through creation of values for customers. The overview of the company’s CSR activities and those targeted at different stakeholders are discussed in detail to facilitate deeper understanding of the philosophy of Fuji Xerox.

This section is comprised of reports on Fuji Xerox’efforts to solve critical social issues in the countries and regions where it operates.
Highlight 1: Knowledge Creation Underpins Corporate and Social Sustainability
How can organizations that lost steam be revitalized amidst globalization and the unprecedented depths of the recession? The activities of Fuji Xerox’knowledge creation consultation division KDI (Knowledge Dynamics Initiative) and a case study of a client who promoted innovative changes with them are introduced.
Highlight 2: Integrated Recycling System Contributes to the Creation of a Truly Affluent China
China is boosting environmental efforts right across the nation. Based on the belief that there are no national borders to the waste issue, Fuji Xerox commenced operation of the resources recycling system in January 2008 in the country. This section introduces the activities of employees and dealers that began to approach society with the belief that recycling is important, as well as how they are contributing to the realization of an affluent society in harmony with the environment.
Highlight 3: Helping to Build Society Through a Mutual Benefit Approach
In the Philippines where poverty is a major social issue, Fuji Xerox Philippines Inc. has offered assistance in building homes for people living in slums. The third highlight introduces the activity, which promoted the self-sustainability of the people and bonding among Fuji Xerox employees.
Proposal from Fuji Xerox
This section introduces the company’s activities to spread large-font textbooks that support the learning of children with reduced vision. In addition to the existing social contribution activity of providing color copies of textbooks free of charge, Fuji Xerox is engaged in a potential activity that involves collaboration of public administration, schools, publishing houses and volunteersnamely, utilization of the digital data of textbooks and publishing of large-font textbooks based on standard specifications.
Learning From the International Community’s Challenges
In this section, Ms. Sadako Ogata, president of JICA, offers hints on how to realize global management rooted in local communities. In her message, Ms. Ogata stressed that understanding the local needs is of utmost importance to management.
CSR Activities in Our Affiliate Companies
Understanding the basic policy of the company, employees of Fuji Xerox affiliates carry out proactive CSR activities that address various local issues. They are involved with various types of activities in each country and region.
Self-evaluation on progress of CSR performance
Achievements of CSR activities in the past year, as well as goals for this year are disclosed for 23 itemsNote 2, to which Fuji Xerox attaches importance in considering the company’s relationship with society, and on which many inquiries are expected from stakeholders.

To provide third-party opinion, Eiichiro Adachi, research chief of The Japan Research Institute, Limited, reviewed Fuji Xerox’s CSR performance and the Report.

Sustainability Report 2009 is comprised of the following: print editions (Japanese, English and Chinese); “CSR Activities Pamphlet” (available in PDF) that introduces major efforts targeting different stakeholders; “Data Book”Note 3 (available on the web in Japanese and English) that lists details of activities and data. “CSR Activities Pamphlet” and “Data Book” can be viewed on the Fuji Xerox official website, where the print editions can be downloaded as well. Various navigation tools such as a report map and a guideline content index are available on the web for easier access to necessary information.
