The New York Times Companys Regional Media Group Names Dan E. Shorter Vice President, Digital Media
Wednesday 26. August 2009 - The New York Times Company's Regional Media Group announced today that Dan E. Shorter has been named vice president, digital media effective Sept em ber 8. Mr. Shorter will report to Michael Golden, president and chief operating officer, Regional Media Group, and vice chairman of the Times Company.
” We are extremely pleased Dan is joining the Regional Media Group ,” said Mr. Golden. ” He is a proven leader in interactive media who brings a deep understanding of what we need to do on the Web and in other digital forms. Dan is well recognized as a true innovator. Additionally, he understands how to make money in the digital and newspaper worlds. “
Mr. Shorter, 53, served as president, digital media, for The Minneapolis Star Tribune from 2008 to 2009. Previously Mr. Shorter worked for Cox Enterprises from 1978 to 2008, most recently as general manager of PalmBeachPost.com from 2001 to 2008. Among the other positions Mr. Shorter held at Cox were South Florida general manager for Cox Interactive Media, Palm Beach Post director of new ventures, executive business editor, assistant news editor and news desk copy editor.
Mr. Shorter received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University . He has won or shared in numerous professional awards including the 2008 NAA Digital Innovator of the Year and 2008 Presstime Magazine Best Practices Award, and he received the NAA Digital Edge Award every year from 2002 to 2008.
