Polar has the cutting edge in Bolton

Bolton Metropolitan Council’s printing inplant will this month take delivery of a Polar 78X guillotine which replaces a 26 year old machine.

Wednesday 22. July 2009 - Bolton Metropolitan Council’s printing inplant will this month take delivery of a Polar 78X guillotine which replaces a 26 year old machine.

David Duddle, production co-ordinator and one of the operators of the guillotine, is delighted. “The Polar is the most reliable machine on the market and we wanted the best we would get. This will make a vast difference to productivity. The Polar 78X is faster and will give us greater precision. We can even store complex and regular jobs. I have used a similar machine previously in my career.”

Typical of the work handled for the council and public bodies is letterheads, compliment slips, leaflets and business cards. It prints on a GTO-4 four-colour press from Heidelberg.

The 26 year old Polar being traded out has proved reliable but finding parts is becoming more difficult and less cost effective and it is this that has spurred the investment.

The inplant operates a flexible single shift and all staff will at times use the guillotine.
