French Magazines Select vjoon K2
Thursday 16. July 2009 - AD HOC GRAPHIC SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED K2 SYSTEMS AT "ALTERNATIVES ECONOMIQUES", "LE JOURNAL DE LA VENDÉE" AND "PUTEAUX INFOS"
vjoon today announced three new K2 software installations in France:
renowned anti-globalization publishing house “Alternatives
Economiques”, regional magazine “Le Journal de la Vendée”, and
“Puteaux Infos”, the local magazine issued by the city of Puteaux.
vjoon’s French integration partner, AD HOC Graphic, located in Paris helps
these three publishers to streamline their production processes using
vjoon K2, the smaller version of the popular vjoon K4 Publishing System.
This database publishing solution for smaller workgroups allows Adobe
InDesign and InCopy users to work on layouts and articles simultaneously,
streamlining their workflow through individual job assignments.
“Alternatives Economiques” is a monthly magazine informing its readers
about developments in worldwide and domestic economy and society. The
alternative publishing house has been using vjoon K2 since June 2008, also
managing its other publications and special editions such as
“Alternatives Internationales”, “L’Economie Politique”, “Santé et
Travail” and “Les Chiffres de l’Economie” with the system. For an
optimal use of the publishing platform, K2 is running on two systems –
with about eight different publications – to connect the editorial teams
in Paris with designers in Dijon, for a total production team of about 17
people.
REACTING TO LAST-MINUTE CHANGES
Famous for its beaches at the Atlantic Ocean, the French Department Vendée
has also chosen to switch the production of its bi-weekly magazine “Le
Journal de la Vendée” to vjoon K2. Its publisher, the administrative
“conseil general” lays the editorial focus on news and stories of the
region Vendée, one of the editorial highlights being the “Vendée Globe
Challenge” sailing race around the world. “After a short time to get
familiar with K2, the editors soon started to save much time and to gain a
great flexibility to react to last-minute editorial changes,” says
Ludovic Robet, Chief Editor of “Le Journal de la Vendée”. “All
together, the system has allowed us to improve the security in the
production process, and the control and approval steps are now well
organized, as the files are all stored in the database. Stories do not get
lost on a file server anymore. Moreover, any editor has the opportunity to
make his story shorter or longer by himself whenever needed, through
remote work if necessary, which is also a very interesting feature.”
Having worked for the weekly regional press prior to his position as Chief
Editor, Robet initiated the selection of a professional publishing system.
The goal was to optimize the production of its team with vjoon K2, which
is perfectly suited for all kinds of collaborative work between designers
and editors. After a few days of training, production of “Le Journal de
la Vendée” went live with K2 for regular issues as well as special
editions for the 2009 “Vendée Globe Challenge”.

ENJOYING PERMANENT OVERVIEW
****************************************************************************
AD HOC Graphic also recently installed K2 at “Puteaux Infos”, a monthly
local magazine produced by editors and designers in the city of Puteaux, a
suburban area in Paris, which is internationally known for its business
district La Défense. The first issue of “Puteaux Infos” produced with
K2 was out in April 2009. Along with the integration of vjoon K2, the team
switched its layout tool from QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign and its
editing tool from MS Word to Adobe InCopy. Now, 12 new users enjoy the
smooth and secure way to work with permanent overview on the publishing
process – possible through K2 Overview. From now on, one by one, other
publications switch to an Adobe InDesign/InCopy and K2 based production.
Puteaux is the first French municipality to choose Adobe InDesign and K2
for its publications.
These recent installations at new French sites raise the total amount of
vjoon systems in the country, all installed by AD HOC Graphic, who also
managed all the pre-installation surveying and training.
